Battlefield 2042 Dev Admits Fixes Are Taking Too Long

In response to several player questions, a Battlefield 2042 developer admits that DICE has been “taking too long” to release fixes for some of the game’s main issues. The developer also reveals that an update for XP progression in the game’s Portal mode will likely release sometime later next week. DICE originally disabled XP in custom servers in order to combat XP farming last year.

DICE dev finally addresses issues in Battlefield 2042

Senior Design Director Justin Wiebe took to Twitter to respond to a few Battlefield fans over the past week. Among various questions, one fan asked how DICE would address XP and weapon progression in the Portal game mode. As player numbers have dwindled in other Battlefield 2042 game modes such as All Out Warfare and Hazard Zone — to the point where DICE reportedly stopped tracking statistics for the latter — Portal seems to be the only game mode that players are coming back to.

To this, Wiebe responded:

Thanks for bringing this up. You’re not wrong! It’s taking us too long to get this resolved. Something that should have been simple is proving to be quite complex. BUT…. Look for an update next week. There will be a phased approach to improving the progression in BF Portal.

With the recent return of Battlefield 2042‘s Rush mode, Wiebe also clarified that the team was considering adding in a rule editor. However, due to the fact that DICE created Rush using the Frostbite engine and not with Portal logic, Wiebe noted that it would require a complete rework in order to add it to Battlefield 2042. But hey, at least we’re finally getting communication from the developers on the state of the game.

In other news, Konami recently sold a Castlevania NFT at auction for a whopping $160,000. PS5’s are also now available across Europe via the PlayStation Direct storefront while stocks last.
