Call of Duty: Vanguard Season One and the Warzone Pacific update featuring the new Caldera map have been delayed by a week. Both will now launch on December 8, although neither Activision, Sledgehammer Games or Raven Software have given a reason for the delay.

Vanguard Season 1 will add new maps and game modes, new weapons and gear, and updates to the Zombies mode. More details on these are expected closer to the Season’s new launch date. In the meantime, Vanguard players can enjoy the return of the close-quarters Shipment map as part of the pre-season buildup. Black Ops Cold War players also have free Vanguard reward tiers they can unlock during the current Season 6. On November 24, multiplayer challenges will arrive in Vanguard that will give more intel on Caldera and its points of interest. Season 1 will then begin on December 8.

Not only will Warzone players get the brand new Caldera map, they will also still be able to access the Rebirth Island map after the upcoming update. As well as the standard battle royale fare, there will be a Vanguard Royale mode limiting things to the Vanguard weapons and new combat vehicles. As with Vanguard’s Season One, more details on these are expected closer to the new launch date. For now, Warzone players can enjoy Operation: Flashback, a limited-time mode that celebrates the last 18 months of Verdansk’s history.

“Secrets of the Pacific” Challenges will also be added to Warzone on November 24 and they have the same purpose as those in Vanguard. On November 30, players can witness the final hours of Verdansk with a limited-time event and game modes, although this event has now been extended until December 8. Warzone will now not change its name to Call of Duty: Warzone Pacific until this date either. While Caldera will be added to Warzone on December 8, this is an early access release those who own Vanguard. Open access to the map for everyone will begin December 9.

It’s unknown if the delay is related to the recent Wall Street Journal report about Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick and the subsequent fallout, including both PlayStation and Xbox leadership condemning the publisher’s responses to the allegations. It could also simply be that the new content wasn’t quite ready to go, forcing a one-week delay.

Those of you who are still on the fence about getting Call of Duty: Vanguard can try the multiplayer entirely free this weekend. The free trial runs until November 22 and includes access to all of the game’s multiplayer modes. As always, Call of Duty: Warzone is free-to-play.
