Irix teases T1.5 cine lens, set to be released two days from nowDPR 11 January, 2022Lens manufacturer Irix has shared a teaser video showing off a new T1.5 cinema lens that is ‘ready to be seen’ on January 12th, 2022.Based on the limited information provided in the 23-second teaser video, we can see the Swiss-designed, Korean-made lens will offer an T-stop range of T1.5 through T16, have a nine-blade aperture diaphragm, use a 95mm diameter lens hood and have the usual 0.8 pitch mod gears for follow focus systems. Considering the lens features a similar design to Irix’s other cine lenses, it’s probably safe to assume it will use Irix’s patent-pending Magnetic Mount System (MMS), which allows for easy swapping of compatible filters. The placement of the removable tripod mount suggests the lens will be quite heavy, which is further alluded to by the bulbous front element that barely hides behind the plane of the lens hood.As it stands, Irix offers five award-winning cinema lenses, including an 11mm T4.3, a 15mm T2.6, a 30mm T1.5, a 45mm T1.5 and a 150mm T3.0. Based on the size of the lens shown in the teaser and the gap between the 45mm and 150mm cinema lenses, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see something in the 80–100mm range.Whatever the case is, we won’t have to wait long. The unreleased lens is set for launch just two days from now, on January 12, 2022.
