Lionsgate is Going to Make Games Based on the Saw Franchise

Two prominent Lionsgate producers have revealed that the company is looking to create games based on the popular horror series Saw. Answering questions from fans on Reddit, the producers stated that Lionsgate has brought them “some amazing projects.” While details are still scarce, they assure fans that the project will “100% happen.”

Saw film series producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules recently held an Ask Me Anything on the /r/horror subreddit. In it, the duo answered a few questions from fans about the future of the franchise. One such question was about the possibility of a Saw game series specifically for next-gen consoles. Replying from the official Lionsgate Reddit account, the producers revealed that Lionsgate gave them several projects that they were currently exploring.

This isn’t the first time the popular horror series has made its foray into video games, however. Konami published Saw: The Video Game way back in 2009 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. Developer Zombie Studios even made a sequel, Saw II: Flesh & Blood, which received notably unfavorable reviews. The series wouldn’t see any form of video game content until 2018 when Dead By Daylight picked up the franchise in the form of a DLC killer and survivor.

Lionsgate has also been involved in other video game projects as well. Lionsgate’s game publishing division, Lionsgate Games, published Bloober Team’s Blair Witch game, based on the horror movie franchise of the same name.

Notably, the film studio is also producing the Borderlands film adaptation. Lionsgate has released various updates about Borderlands in recent months. Big-name actors such as Thor: Ragnarok‘s Cate Blanchett, comedian Kevin Hart, and Halloween‘s Jamie Lee Curtis are confirmed as part of the star-studded cast.

While any Saw game is likely a ways out, rest assured that “it will 100% happen” at some point, bringing the storied and gruesome trap-based horror franchise to consoles once again.
