PlayStation Plus Collection to Remain a Benefit to PS5 Subscribers Despite Changes

0

With all the changes announced to PlayStation Plus yesterday, fans have questioned the future of the PlayStation Plus Collection. However, Sony has confirmed that the free benefit for all PS5 players with PS Plus will remain when the new tiered system of the service releases this June.

How the PlayStation Plus Collection will still be a benefit on PS5

Speaking of the lack of impact the PS Plus changes would have on the PlayStation Plus Collection IGN’s Jonathon Dornbush said on Twitter: “For those wondering — PlayStation confirmed to IGN that the PlayStation Plus Collection will not be going away with this change. It will remain as a benefit to all PS5 players with PS Plus.”

PlayStation Plus Collection launched alongside the PS5 in 2020 as a bonus for players lucky enough to pick up the console on day one. It includes a range of PS4 games that can be downloaded locally via backwards compatibility. This includes first-party games such as God of War and Ratchet and Clank to popular third-party titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 — Zombies Chronicles Edition and Batman: Arkham Knight. The service allows players to play through the whole game as long as they are a PS Plus subscriber – similar to how the free monthly games work. Since its inception, no games have been added or removed from the collection.

After months of rumors, PlayStation announced its plans to revamp PS Plus and potentially compete with Xbox Game Pass. Yesterday, three tiers were announced: PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium. Essential will be the same PS Plus subscription we have today. Extra adds up to 400 PS4 and PS5 games. With Premium adding an additional 340 games, including PS3 games via the cloud and games to download from the original PlayStation, PS2, and PSP generations.

In other news, check out the full details of the revamped PlayStation Plus coming later this year. Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan believes launching exclusives into PS Plus could hurt the quality of first-party games. Meanwhile, Everbody’s Golf PS4 online servers are to close in September.
