The rumors of an imminent reveal for Project Spartacus are looking increasingly like being correct after some PS4 and PS5 players have reported complimentary PS Now subscriptions being added onto their PlayStation Plus memberships. Others have reported existing memberships changing their name, suggesting a merge into a new service could be coming soon.
What’s happening with PS Plus and PlayStation Now?
Reports from several NeoGaf users have claimed those who take out a new PlayStation Plus subscription, or who renew an existing subscription, are getting a free PlayStation Now subscription for the same duration. For example, those who take out a 12 month PS Plus subscription are also receiving a 12 month PS Now subscription for no extra cost.
Other players who already have subscriptions to both services are reporting that there seems to be a bug with their names. When looking at their subscription options, they’re seeing two subscriptions to PlayStation Plus instead of individual subscriptions to PS Plus and PS Now. However, those who are only currently subscribed to one or the other and who haven’t renewed their subscriptions are seeing no change.
IGN Italia decided to perform an experiment on a profile with an existing PS Plus membership but no PS Now subscription. After purchasing a month of PS Now, they found they instead received a far lengthier subscription that expired at the same time as their existing PS Plus membership. However, they also clarified that these changes could potentially just be a bug with the PlayStation Store. They also seem to lean into speculation that Sony’s answer to Xbox Game Pass, Project Spartacus, will be revealed soon. The new service is expected to be unveiled at a State of Play show later this month, although Sony is yet to confirm anything.
In other news, OtherSide Entertainment is working on an “immersive simulation” for a brand new IP. The studio is the latest home of Deus Ex and System Shock creator Warren Spector. Elsewhere, Returnal has notched up eight BAFTA nominations, including Best Game.
