PS5 Is Beating Xbox Series X/S Sales By Nearly Double, Claims Analyst

PS5 sales have almost doubled the number of Xbox Series X/S units sold, an analyst has claimed. According to the analyst, Xbox has shifted 18.5 million units, which is considerably behind Sony’s console sales.

PS5 sales at 30 million compared to Xbox’s 18.5 million

Industry analyst Piers Harding-Rolls over at Ampere Analysis has indicated that the PS5 is heavily leading sales in the current generation, claiming that Sony is beating out Microsoft’s consoles by 11.5 million units sold. Harding-Rolls estimates that the PS5 has sold 30 million units, which is behind Sony’s own provided figures, as the company revealed earlier this month that 32.1 million units had been sold. This means that if Harding-Rolls’ figure is correct, PS5 is leading Xbox by an even larger 13.6 million units sold.

Harding-Rolls states that “the availability of PlayStation 5 improved towards the end of the year, especially in the US, and the global stock has been much more regularly available in 2023.” With the Xbox Series X yet to end any shortages, it’s possible that this gap in the market is only going to widen, which will likely cause Microsoft to desperately scramble to find any foothold in the market, such as trying to find a way to accelerate the Microsoft Activision-Blizzard acquisition.

In other news, Microsoft has officially acknowledged that Xbox Game Pass actually causes a decrease in sales, and a developer on The Last of Us multiplayer has spoken about the implementation of a new feature in the game.
