Sony updates Camera Remote SDK with support for Cinema Line cameras, new functionality for drones

Sony has announced an updated version (version 1.06) of its Camera Remote Software Development Kit (SDK). The updated SDK adds compatibility with Cinema Line cameras, including the FX6, FX3 and FX30. The updated SDK improves functionality to support third-party companies developing bespoke applications built around Sony cameras.

Version 1.06 of the Camera Remote SDK offers new features aimed at inspection and multi-camera production applications. A new Drone GPS sync enables location information transfer, allowing users to link GPS info to still images in real-time. This is accomplished by sending ‘ImageID’ from the SDK.

There are new operational menu settings, including Reset / Save Settings, which improves workflows, ‘especially when multiple takes are needed in a row,’ says Sony. Concerning the FX6, new compatibility offers basic control using Content Mobile Browser that allows for up to five units to be controlled in parallel.

It’s important to contextualize what the Camera Remote SDK can enable for third-party developers. The SDK allows users to remotely control Sony cameras from a computer, including access to camera settings, remote shutter release, and live view monitoring. Using the SDK, software developers can build applications tailored to specific usage scenarios, including many industrial and business operations. By integrating equipment across Sony’s lineup, including the Cinema Line cameras, applications can be built for drones and speed cameras and applications within medical, educational and industrial fields.

Sony also offers extensive support for customers working with the Camera Remote SDK. Interested parties can reach out and discuss how the SDK can help them and what products may be best for a specific purpose. Sony released its first camera control SDK in early 2020, and since then, Sony has continued to expand the list of compatible cameras and the tasks that the SDK can handle.
