Ubisoft Delays The Division Heartland and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake Into the Next Financial Year

0

Ubisoft has revealed its latest financial results, something that was largely uneventful. However, the results included a list of games the company expects to release during the next financial year, and this inadvertently revealed that Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake have been delayed, again.

During a previous financial presentation back in May, Ubisoft said Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland was expected to be released during the current financial year, so before the end of March 2022. Now that window has been revised and it will be one of six premium titles currently scheduled to release during the next financial year between April 2022 and March 2023. The reason for its delay is unknown but not surprising bearing in mind Ubisoft Massive also delayed the brand new content for The Division 2 earlier this week (not to mention the video game industry being awash with delays thanks to the pandemic).

Meanwhile, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is starting to sound like it’s stuck in development hell. The game was originally due to be released last January before being delayed to March. The game was then further delayed to “a later date” that was narrowed down to the final three months of the current financial year, which would fall between January and March 2022. Now it is delayed for a third time to the next financial year, the second of six premium titles currently scheduled to release between April 2022 and March 2023. Developer Ubisoft India released a statement to reassure players:

The full statement can be read below:

Hello Prince of Persia fans!

We want to take a moment to reassure you that the development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is still under way, motivated and inspired by your feedback.

We will update you on our progress in the future and want to thank all of you for your unwavering support and patience.

Back in September, Rocksmith+ was delayed to a 2022 release date so the team could incorporate user feedback from the closed beta. As this is the third game to release during the next financial year, we can expect to see it sometime between April and December 2022. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora also has a similar release window.

Surprisingly, Skull & Bones remains on course for the next financial year having been moved to this window back in May. Apparently “work on the game continues to progress well and the Singapore team passed important new production milestones.” Finally, we’ll also see Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope on Nintendo Switch during the same period.

The other thing of note was a rather cryptic comment about Roller Champions. The game is still expected to be released before the end of March 2022 but “is no longer factored in the guidance.” The nicest way of interpreting this is that the game will be released towards the very end of March and will have little impact on the current fiscal year figures. Another explanation is possibly that we can expect this game to be delayed again very soon. Either way, little has been said about Roller Champions since its closed beta back in January and this isn’t necessarily a good sign.
