Fans have been asking for it for over 20 years, and it’s finally happening: New Pokemon Snap is coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch April 30, 2021 (see it at Amazon). A fresh take on the 1999 Nintendo 64 original, New Pokemon Snap brings players to the Lental region, where you’ll explore areas like deserts, beaches, and jungles that are filled with Pokemon. Your job is to observe and snap photos of these creatures in their natural habitats, filling out your Pokemon Photodex in the process.

Since there are no special editions or preorder bonuses for New Pokemon Snap (at least that they’ve announced so far) these links are all you need to secure a copy of the game for yourself.

You’re accompanied on this scientific expedition by Professor Mirror and his research assistants Rita and Phil. You’ll hop into the NEO-ONE travel pod and explore uncharted islands, studying the pokemon that inhabit the region. To see how the pokemon react to certain inputs, you can do things like toss them fluffruit or play music. You can even toss Illumina orbs on the creatures to make them glow.

There are also frames and stickers you can apply to the pictures you take. If you want to share your snapped pics, you can post them online, where other people can “like” them. Overall, it looks like a pretty relaxed, family-friendly game that’s appropriate for players of all ages.
